This workshop has been one of our most popular over the years, but we have made it even more unique! We have added (through outfitters) over night stays at both White Pocket in the Page area and Hunt’s Mesa at Monument Valley. This will allow us both a sunset and sunrise in both of these fantastic locations. We will also visit Antelope Canyon & other Page locations, Monument Valley from the valley, and a guided tour in Canyon de Chelly. Evening and morning destinations will include exuberantly glowing red rock cliffs and formations that seem to have been created simply to stir the creative juices in nature photographers.
Northern Arizona’s share of the colorful Colorado Plateau graces us with arches, pinnacles, canyons (both vastly wide and precariously narrow), and swirls of multihued rock that evidence millions of years of the earth’s evolution. Our base of operations will move from Kanab, UT to Page, AZ, to Monument Valley, and finally Canyon de Chelly.
We will pickup in Las Vegas (if you ride with us) and proceed to Kanab, UT. In Kanab, we will meet up with our outfitter and proceed to White Pocket to spend the night. White Pocket is a unique destination not far from The Wave. It is one of the new “must visit” photo locations in the area. We will camp there for the night with our outfitter providing everything we need from all the gear to meals while we are there. They will also provide 4 wheel drive transportation to and from the location. Most people visit White Pocket in the middle of the day (when the light is bad) because of the 4 wheel drive trip to get there and back. Unlike the Wave, you can drive directly to White Pocket. Because we will spend the night, we will get the best photography light at sunset and sunrise for this outstanding location.
From Kanab, we will travel the short distance to Page, Arizona. Here we plan to visit Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon. Lake Powell is also in the area. Antelope Canyon has become a zoo as it has become more famous causing more visitors, but we plan to book a photographic tour which allows tripods and more time in the Canyon and gets us there for the best light of the day.
From Page, we will proceed to Monument Valley for two nights, the home of Arizona’s best landscapes, and the location where many many western movies were filmed. The first day we will have a guide and vehicles to tour the lower valley for sunset and sunrise. Here is where we will photograph the Mittens, Keyhole Arch, Totem Pole, and many other famous locations.
The second afternoon, we will 4 wheel drive to Hunt’s Mesa and again spend the night. Hunt’s Mesa is a high location that looks down .on many unique views of Monument Valley below. The road to Hunt’s Mesa is not good, but the view makes the trip all worthwhile. Again we will camp for the night with the outfitter providing all necessary equipment and meals. Again, we will be there for the best of the day’s light for sunset and sunrise. The Hunt’s Mesa view is one of Arizona’s best and this itinerary gives the best chance for outstanding photos.
After Monument Valley & Hunt’s Mesa, we will proceed to Canyon de Chelly, another of Arizona’s most famous canyons. Here we will have an all day (including lunch) tour of the Canyon. Our guide will be a Navajo, who knows the best photo locations and is a historian and story teller for the tribe.
From Canyon de Chelly, we will drive to Phoenix for airport drop off.
