Join Beth Ruggiero-York and Ron York for an exciting workshop exploring and photographing the diverse areas of the Cape Cod peninsula at night. Learn the techniques needed for successful night photography by day and then practice at night. Having lived on and photographed the Cape for many years, Beth is able to provide a unique insight to some hidden locations for photography. We will be based in Eastham and visiting the Cape during prime Milky Way season. From the sand dune beaches of the National Seashore, to the fishing and sailing harbors, historic lighthouses and buildings, and eclectic towns such as Provincetown, we will have countless opportunities to make great images of a very unique part of this country.
Day 1 – Thursday, July 28, 2016
- Group will meet at hotel meeting room at 10:00 am for a presentation about the Cape and our itinerary. We will then spend the remainder of the day learning night photography techniques and camera settings. You will learn to photograph the Milky Way and stars, including correct exposure/camera settings and optimal composition, creating star trails and light painting.
- Leave hotel for an early dinner and arrival before sunset (8:02pm) on site for our first night shoot.
- Day 2 – Friday, July 29
- You will have some time in the morning to download images.
- Drive north to Provincetown photographing along the way to the Cape’s most eclectic town.
- Have dinner in Provincetown and then head to the National Seashore to shoot sunset followed by star trails and the Milky Way after dark.
Day 3 – Saturday, July 30
- Optional sunrise shoot.
Late morning we will convene in the conference room for a critique of some of the previous night’s images, to answer any questions about the previous night’s shoot, and to discuss post-processing for night images. Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop will be used for post-processing. Lunch will be at the hotel.
Leave hotel for an early dinner and arrival before sunset (8:00pm) on site for our final night shoot.
